Emphasizing the primacy of national interest, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar took a firm stance against Pakistan, stating that India will never bow to any kind of nuclear intimidation.
Speaking at the convocation ceremony for foreign students at Parul University in Vadodara, Gujarat, Jaishankar reiterated Indiaโs unwavering commitment to combating terrorism. โWe will never succumb to nuclear blackmail. Decisions made in Indiaโs national interest have been and will continue to be pursued,โ he asserted.
Referring to the April terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir โ which claimed 26 lives, including that of a Nepali citizen โ Jaishankar condemned it as an attempt to cripple the regionโs tourism and spark communal unrest. โThe brutality of the act demanded an exceptional response, and that response was delivered,โ he said, adding that perpetrators and sponsors of terrorism must be made to bear significant consequences.
He further remarked that Indiaโs approach to terrorism has evolved considerably since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, with a much firmer resolve today. โTerror hubs are no longer beyond reach. Indiaโs zero-tolerance policy is now clearly visible through its decisive actions,โ Jaishankar noted.
Turning attention to global issues, particularly those affecting the Global South, he stressed how the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ukraine conflict, and disruptions in food and energy supplies exposed critical vulnerabilities. He called for deeper international cooperation rooted in diversity and pluralism, aligning with Indiaโs vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakamโthe world as one family.
Jaishankar also highlighted Indiaโs active and principled leadership in advocating for the Global South, based on shared histories and collective goals.
He concluded by noting that India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 as a direct response to the Pahalgam attack.
