Jammu, April 21: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday directed the immediate repatriation of doctors who have been serving beyond their authorized tenure in Government Medical Colleges (GMC) Jammu and Srinagar without approval. These doctors, lacking super-specializations, will be sent back to their parent departments under the Directorate of Health Services.

The move comes in light of the urgent need to strengthen healthcare delivery in peripheral areas, which are reportedly facing an acute shortage of medical professionals.

According to the order issued by Secretary Health and Medical Education, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, all such consultants and medical officers who are part of the J&K Health and Family Welfare (Gazetted) Service and are overstaying on deputation or tenure postings will be considered relieved from their respective medical colleges with immediate effect.

The order further mandates that principals and Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) at GMC Jammu and Srinagar must refrain from processing or disbursing salaries for the repatriated doctors. Failure to comply will be treated as a serious financial irregularity and could lead to disciplinary action under service rules.

The directive underscores the administrationโ€™s focus on improving healthcare access in rural and underserved areas by ensuring equitable distribution of medical personnel.
