MOSCOW, MAY 23: In a demonstration of India’s firm stance on combating global terrorism, an All-Party Parliamentary Delegation led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi held a series of significant engagements in the Russian Federation. The delegation interacted with members of both chambers of the Russian Parliament and key think tanks, focusing on deepening legislative and strategic cooperation.
The Indian delegation met with Andrey Denisov, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council’s Committee on International Affairs, and other Russian Senators. The discussions emphasized the importance of strengthening legislative collaboration to tackle terrorism. India spotlighted Operation Sindoor as a notable national effort in this regard.
Later, the delegation held talks with Leonid Slutsky, Chair of the State Duma’s Committee on International Affairs, along with other lawmakers. Both sides reaffirmed the strong India-Russia relationship, rooted in mutual respect and shared values. They discussed the shifting global security landscape, emphasizing the need for multilateral cooperation. The Indian representatives underscored the necessity for effective international mechanisms to prevent terrorist groups from accessing safe havens, funding, or political validation.
The delegation also conferred with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, covering a broad range of bilateral and global issues. India reiterated its uncompromising stance on terrorism and rejected any form of nuclear intimidation. The two countries agreed to further enhance their counter-terrorism efforts.
In a strategic exchange, the delegation met with former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, now Director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS). Discussions centered on combating radicalization, disinformation used by terrorist networks, and state-sponsored propaganda. Both sides emphasized the need for a narrative built on principles of pluralism, sovereignty, and international law, agreeing to expand think tank collaboration, including joint research on transnational terrorism.
