Srinagar, Apr 13: Extending heartfelt greetings on the occasion of Baisakhi, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir continues to represent a beacon of harmony, where people of diverse faiths coexist peacefully and respectfully.

Speaking to the media after offering prayers at Gurdwara Chhati Patshahi in Srinagar, Birdi said, “Baisakhi is not just a festival for the Sikh community but for everyone. It symbolizes joy, prosperity, and peace for all.”

He highlighted Jammu and Kashmir’s rich cultural tapestry, where communities have always celebrated festivals together, strengthening the bonds of unity and brotherhood. He also noted the participation of people from various faiths in the Baisakhi celebrations, which added to the festive atmosphere.

Birdi reiterated the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment, particularly during religious events. “Our personnel are always on duty to ensure every celebration proceeds smoothly and safely,” he said.

Addressing concerns over drug trafficking and narco-terrorism, the IGP stated that the police are tackling these issues in โ€œmission mode.โ€ He said strong legal actions, including arrests and property seizures, are being taken to protect the youth and society at large.

“The police are dedicated to ensuring that the people of Jammu and Kashmir can live peacefully, free from the dangers of drugs and terrorism,โ€ he added.
