Hajin, May 26: The General Council of Halqa-e-Adab Sonawari (HAS), one of Kashmirโs oldest and most respected literary bodies, held its annual meeting at MD Hajini Memorial School in Hajin, Bandipora district, north Kashmir. About fifty members attended to finalize the calendar of literary and cultural events for the coming year.
Chairing the meeting, Dr. Riyaz-ul-Hassan presented the proposed literary activities, which were unanimously approved by the council. The plans include an essay writing contest for school students and a series of interactive sessions titled โKatha Batha,โ featuring talks with renowned writers and senior HAS members.
A key event on the calendar is the celebration of โYaum-e-Aslaafโ (Day of the Ancestors) in September, where the Khilat-e-Hajini, Khilat-e-Aziz Hajini, and Aziz Hajini Gold Medal will be awarded. The council also decided to hold a special literary tribute in October to honor Ghulam Hassan Taskeen, a celebrated writer from Hajin.
Farooq Hajini, representing the Secretary Finance, presented the budget for the upcoming year, which the members reviewed and approved. The meeting ended with a cultural forum featuring poetic and devotional performances. Farooq Ateeb recited a touching ghazal, while Farooq Prangi performed a soulful naat, both of which led to lively discussions among attendees, highlighting HASโs ongoing dedication to literary critique and appreciation.
Sheikh Ghulam Muhammad, HAS Vice President, thanked everyone for their participation, while Dr. Riyaz-ul-Hassan efficiently conducted the session.
