Jammu, April 06: In a major breakthrough, police on Sunday arrested a notorious gangster, Amir Khan, in Udhampur district following a joint intelligence-based operation.
A resident of Khoon village, Khan was intercepted while moving through the Majalta area and taken into custody after attempting to flee, a police spokesperson said.
Khan is accused in multiple serious crimes, including rape, drug trafficking, attempted murder, and illegal possession of weapons. He was wanted in several FIRs registered across different police stations in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
According to officials, Khan was affiliated with a criminal gang active in areas such as Manhor Gopala, Check Deyala, Check Manga Gujjrain, Mandhara, Rakh Brotia, and Vijaypur in Udhampur and Samba districts.
His arrest is seen as a significant blow to the criminal network in the region and has brought a sense of relief to the local population, the spokesperson added.
