Srinagar, May 22: A team of doctors at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla has successfully conducted a complex surgery to remove a massive ovarian tumor weighing over 7 kilograms from a 55-year-old woman.

The patient, a resident of Rafiabad, was referred to the Department of General and Minimal Access Surgery at GMC Baramulla after experiencing repeated intestinal blockages, difficulty breathing, significant weight loss, and severe swelling in the left kidney, as revealed by an ultrasound.

Doctors discovered a large intra-abdominal mass that had completely filled the abdominal and pelvic cavity. The high-risk procedure was carried out collaboratively by the Departments of General Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the main operation theatre.

They identified and removed a large mucinous cystadenoma originating from the left ovary, weighing 7.4 kg, which had spread to the left fallopian tube and filled the peritoneal cavity. The tumor was excised through a left salpingo-oophorectomy along with a peritoneal wash.

The tumor has been sent for further pathological analysis. The patient was safely extubated and transferred to the recovery unit.

GMC Baramulla continues to carry out such advanced and critical surgeries, reaffirming its commitment to delivering quality and specialized medical care.
