Srinagar, April 3: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday registered a case against Darbar Chowdhary, former Block Development Council (BDC) chairman and ex-sarpanch of Dhanore Gorsian in Rajouri, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to officials, a secret inquiry revealed that Chowdhary accumulated wealth significantly beyond his legitimate earnings during his tenure in public office. He served as sarpanch in 2011 and as BDC chairman from 2019 to 2023.

The ACB stated that Chowdhary had acquired multiple houses, plots, shops, luxury vehicles, and other assetsโ€”many registered in the names of his family members. The scale of assets indicated possible corruption and misuse of public office. Searches were also conducted at his properties with the help of local police under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
