Udhampur, April 8 : Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the Himalayan High Altitude Atmospheric and Climate Research Centre and launched the Indo-Swiss ICE-Crunch research project in Chenani, Udhampur. The project, in collaboration with ETH Zurich, focuses on studying ice-nucleating particles and cloud condensation in the north-western Himalayas.
The event saw participation from key dignitaries, including Minister Satish Sharma, DDC Chairperson Lal Chand, MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, senior officials, scientists, and locals. Dr. Singh emphasized the centreโs role in improving predictions of cloudbursts and rainfall, vital for Himalayan safety and development.
Highlighting Indiaโs transformation into a global economic leader under PM Modi, Dr. Singh underlined the importance of leveraging potential in hill regions like J&K. He also mentioned significant achievements in Udhampur, including PMGSY road rankings, the Devika Rejuvenation Project, and the Purple Revolutionโs expansion.
The Union Minister praised Indiaโs advancements in climate research and weather forecasting, attributing progress to Modi-led reforms. He reaffirmed the governmentโs commitment to infrastructure and governance that prioritizes citizensโ ease of living.
Minister Satish Sharma and MLA Mankotia expressed gratitude for the research centre, viewing it as a vital step in scientific disaster management and a boost for the regionโs development.
