Srinagar, April 10: Conservator of Forests (CoF) North Forest Circle, Irfan Ali Shah, conducted a review meeting at the North Forest Headquarters in Sopore to assess the functioning of the Forest Department in Kehmil Forest Division and to evaluate progress on targets for the current financial year.
During the meeting, Shah held detailed discussions with senior forest officers and officials about various government initiatives and schemes in the forestry sector. These included the Green J&K Drive, Green India Mission, Har Gaon Hariyali, implementation of the Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) policy, and projects aimed at livelihood generation, recreational forestry, fodder development, and eco-tourism.
He highlighted that the Green India Mission is a key component of the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC), reflecting Indiaโs commitment to mitigating climate change through restoration and protection of forest cover.
Launched in Kehmil Forest Division in 2019-2020, the mission aims to enhance the quality of moderately dense forests and ecologically restore degraded open forests in Kupwara district. Shah emphasized that promoting ecotourism in border areas like Karnah and Keran will be a priority, both for youth employment and revenue generation.
The meeting was attended by Divisional Forest Officer Faisal Farooq, Range Officers Javid Ahmad Chopan (Ramhall), Shafiq Ahmad Wani (Naihari), Manzoor Ahmad Malik (Keran), Khurshid Alam (Karnah), Bibi Nigaar (W.P.), and other officials from the North Forest Circle.
