After four consecutive days of intense cross-border shelling and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, calm prevailed across Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab on Sunday morning, with no new reports of drone activity, firing, or shelling.
Residents of affected regions, including Jammuโs Samba district, reported a peaceful night. โThere were no incidents overnight. Only yesterday there was firing in Akhnoor. We hope peace continues, but you never know with them,โ said Jitendar Singh, a local, speaking to ANI.
Other areas such as Kupwara, Poonch, Uri in Jammu & Kashmir, and Ferozepur and Pathankot in Punjab also remained quiet and stable.
This comes a day after India accused Pakistan of violating a ceasefire understanding between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations. Indiaโs Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said the breach was taken very seriously, adding that the Indian Army was responding appropriately to border intrusions.
Misri confirmed that the armed forces have been instructed to respond firmly to any repeat violations along both the International Border and the Line of Control.
He urged Pakistan to honor the agreement and act responsibly to prevent further escalation.
