Jammu, April 16 โ€“ Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday launched the e-SEHAT App, a digital healthcare platform designed to streamline access to medical services for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Developed by the Health and Medical Education Department, the app aims to provide a unified solution catering to the needs of citizens, doctors, healthcare professionals, and students across the region.

Speaking at the launch event, the Chief Minister lauded the team behind the app for creating a comprehensive platform that integrates both public and private healthcare services. He emphasized the need to make the application more user-friendly and called for the inclusion of appointment scheduling features for empanelled private health institutions. To ensure smooth adoption, he directed officials to organize training workshops for medical staff and initiate public awareness campaigns highlighting the app’s features and benefits.

To monitor the platformโ€™s effectiveness, Abdullah instructed authorities to conduct periodic reviewsโ€”weekly by the Secretary of Health and Medical Education, monthly by the Chief Secretary, and quarterly by the Minister in charge.

The launch event was attended by several top officials, including Health Minister Sakeena Itoo, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Dheeraj Gupta, Secretary Health Syed Abid Rashid, and principals and superintendents of various government medical colleges.

During a detailed presentation, Secretary Syed Abid Rashid outlined the appโ€™s wide-ranging functionalities. The e-SEHAT App offers tele-diagnosis and remote consultation services, making it particularly useful for people in far-flung areas. It enables users to book appointments, view doctor availability, access diagnostic and surgical services, and seek emergency care. The app also incorporates features such as an AI-powered symptom checker, health tracking tools, medication reminders, and multilingual support.

For healthcare professionals, the app includes secure messaging, access to Electronic Health Records (EHR), lab result integration, and prescription and billing management. It also provides academic content and research opportunities. Medical students can benefit from information on courses, hostel facilities, libraries, and exchange programs.

The platform includes helpline services, ambulance details, and a feedback system, while also supporting an integrated referral mechanism for efficient patient transfer between facilities. It offers information on key health insurance schemes, including PMJAY, CGHS, and ECHS, and promotes skill development through training in CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS), and continuing education programs.

Officials underscored that the app is designed to enhance collaboration between healthcare providers, patients, and insurers, ultimately improving healthcare delivery and outcomes across Jammu and Kashmir.
