Baramulla, April 16: The Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla has ordered the immediate closure and verification of all unregistered private schools and coaching centres operating in the district, amid rising concerns over the unchecked growth of pre-nursery institutions, commonly known as crรจches.
In a circular issued on Tuesday, the CEO stated that the decision was prompted by multiple complaints and grievances from various stakeholders regarding the unauthorized functioning of private educational institutions. These operations, the circular notes, are in clear violation of SRO-123 dated March 18, 2010, and SRO-292 dated July 2, 2018, issued by the School Education Department.
All Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) across the district have been instructed to conduct a thorough verification of the registration and affiliation status of these institutions. They have also been directed to identify unregistered establishments and report them to the CEOโs office without delay.
The circular emphasized that despite repeated advisories, many private institutions have failed to regularize their operations. As a result, the administration has decided to initiate strict action against defaulters. It further warned that any negligence on the part of officials in implementing the order will be taken seriously.
ZEOs have been asked to submit detailed Action Taken Reports (ATRs) promptly. The move is being seen as a critical measure to bring greater accountability and regulation to the districtโs rapidly expanding private education sector.
