Srinagar, April 21: Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Monday called for the urgent start of the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express, citing the current weather crisis that has led to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway — the Valley’s main road link with the rest of the country.

Due to heavy rainfall, flash floods, strong winds, landslides, and shooting stones — especially in the Ramban area — the highway has been blocked, leaving many people, including tourists, stranded.

IsBukhari appealed to the government to start the Vande Bharat train service without delay to maintain connectivity and support the tourism season. He shared on his X account that launching the train would help ensure uninterrupted travel during this difficult time.

He emphasized that since the train was already planned and ready for launch, its formal inauguration could be held later, but the service itself should begin now to aid stranded travelers and help tourism continue smoothly.
