Bandipora district in North Kashmir has become a key player in Jammu and Kashmirโ€™s hydropower sector, contributing nearly 9.6% to the Union Territoryโ€™s total installed capacity of 3540.15 MW.

The 340 MW power project in Bandipora significantly supports the regionโ€™s energy needs and remains a vital part of J&Kโ€™s power infrastructure.

However, the proposed 33/11 KV, 6.3 MVA Receiving Station at Arin Bandiporaโ€”sanctioned under the Prime Ministerโ€™s Development Programme (PMDP-Rural)โ€”was not completed due to land acquisition delays and contractual issues. Consequently, the project failed to meet its deadline and has now been shelved.

To address power issues in the area, authorities have arranged an alternate power feeder from the 33/11 KV Receiving Station at Nadihal, aiming to reduce frequent outages. While this step offers some relief, it falls short of resolving the broader infrastructure challenges.

Officials have not yet shared any updates on the possibility of reviving the Arin project through new funding or government schemes.
