Srinagar, April 10: Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari announced that his party has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court of India, challenging the recently enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
Bukhari said the amended law โclearly infringes upon the rights of Muslim minoritiesโ and emphasized that the petition aims to defend the constitutional protections afforded to minorities nationwide.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, โApni Party has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the newly passed and controversial Waqf Act. We hope this matter will be heard soon, alongside other related cases.โ
He asserted that the legal fight is essential to uphold the rights of minorities, stating, โThe amended Waqf Act compromises the rights of Muslim minorities not just in J&K, but across India.โ
Expressing hope for a favorable outcome, Bukhari added, โOur petition challenges the constitutional validity of the 2025 Waqf Amendment, and weโve presented strong arguments to support our position. We pray justice will prevail.โ
