Jammu, April 07: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir on Monday to assess the security landscape along the International Border (IB) and engage with the families of police personnel killed in a recent encounter with militants.
During his visit, Shah will inspect a forward BSF postโBorder Outpost Vinayโin Kathua to review ground realities and the overall security situation. He is also expected to interact with the families of the slain policemen at Raj Bhavan in Jammu, where he will distribute appointment letters to some of their kin selected for government jobs on compassionate grounds.
Following his border visit, Shah will travel to Srinagar in the afternoon. On April 8, he will hold a meeting at Raj Bhavan to evaluate ongoing developmental projects across the Union Territory, followed by a high-level review of the security situation in J&K.
The Home Minister is also scheduled to visit the family of DySP Humayun Bhat, who was martyred during an anti-terror operation in Kokernag, Anantnag, on September 13, 2023.
Ahead of his visit, security has been significantly intensified across the region. In Srinagar, surveillance has been ramped up with increased checkpoints, drone monitoring, and night patrols. Joint teams of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at key locations to ensure a secure environment.
Shah, who held a two-hour strategy session with BJP legislators in Jammu on Sunday evening, reiterated that statehood would be restored at the “appropriate time” and assured that the security situation in Jammu would stabilize soon.
This marks Shah’s first visit to the Union Territory since the installation of an elected government in October last year. He is expected to return to New Delhi on April 8 after an overnight stay at the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar.
