May 30: Police on Thursday reported the arrest of two hybrid militants linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the Baskuchan area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district. The operation was jointly carried out by the Special Operations Group (SOG) Shopian, 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and 178 Battalion CRPF, following specific intelligence inputs.

 

According to officials, the area was sealed off and suspicious movement was detected in a nearby orchard. The joint teams swiftly acted, resulting in the surrender and subsequent arrest of the two individuals, identified as Irfan Bashir and Uzair Salam.

 

Security forces recovered arms and ammunition from their possession, including two AK-56 rifles, four magazines, 102 rounds of 7.62ร—39mm ammunition, two hand grenades, two pouches, โ‚น5,400 in cash, a mobile phone, a smartwatch, two biscuit packets, and an Aadhaar card.

 

An FIR has been filed under applicable laws, and further investigation is currently ongoing.
