In a continued effort to reach out to residents impacted by cross-border shelling, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Tangdhar in Kupwara district on Tuesday to assess the situation and interact with affected families.
Accompanied by senior officials, including Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, MLAs from Trehgam, Sogam, and Karnah, Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan, and SSP Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani, the Chief Minister toured multiple villages in the Karnah border regionโTangdhar, Hajinard, Nachiyan, Shamspora, Baghbela, Batpora, and Tarboni.
During his visit, Abdullah reviewed the damage to residential properties and listened to grievances from local residents. Praising their resilience, he said, โThese families have shown extraordinary strength amid adversity. The government is fully committed to supporting them and will ensure all necessary assistance for their rehabilitation.โ
He stressed that safety and swift rehabilitation of affected people remain the governmentโs top priority.
At Sub-District Hospital Tangdhar, Abdullah inspected various departmentsโincluding OPD, IPD, Gynaecology, OT, Ultrasound, and X-Rayโand interacted with medical staff and patients. He urged healthcare personnel to deliver services with dedication and empathy.
Speaking to the media, Abdullah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to compensate and support victims of shelling. He also visited and inspected community bunkers, acknowledging their importance during escalations.
โThese bunkers are vital during conflict. We will build more to protect residents in high-risk areas,โ he said, adding that proposals for constructing individual bunkers would be forwarded to the Union Government.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the Hydel Power Project at Gundi Shart, which had faced delays due to recent tensions, and assured its timely completion.
