Srinagar, Apr 15: The Meteorological Department has issued yellow and orange alerts for Jammu and Kashmir on April 18 and 19, warning of light to moderate rain and snowfall in higher altitudes. This comes as the region witnessed its hottest day of the season on Tuesday, with Srinagar recording a high of 30.4°C—10.2 degrees above normal.

Other parts of the Valley, including Qazigund (29.8°C), Pahalgam (25.4°C), Kupwara (29.5°C), and Kokernag (27.5°C), also experienced unusually high temperatures. Gulmarg registered the highest deviation from the norm, with temperatures soaring 11.2 degrees above average to 20.7°C.

According to data accessed by Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a yellow alert has been issued for April 18 in some areas, while both yellow and orange alerts are in place for April 19. A yellow alert advises caution, whereas an orange alert indicates preparedness for potentially severe weather.

The forecast predicts dry weather for the next two days, followed by a spell of light to moderate rain and snow from April 18 to 20, with heavier rainfall possible at isolated to scattered locations. Thunder and gusty winds are expected from the evening of April 18.

On April 21, the weather is likely to remain cloudy with chances of scattered rain and thunderstorms. Dry conditions are forecast from April 22 to 25, while April 26 and 27 may again see cloudy skies.

The MeT department has advised travelers, tourists, and transporters to follow official guidelines and plan accordingly. Farmers are encouraged to continue agricultural activities until April 17, with warnings of potential landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas during the wet spell
