New Delhi, May 12 – The Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan held a high-level dialogue on Monday at 5 PM, focusing on maintaining the ceasefire and exploring measures to de-escalate tensions along the border.

During the talks, both sides reiterated their commitment to refrain from firing or taking any aggressive actions. They also agreed to consider steps toward troop reduction in border and forward areas to avoid further escalation.

The meeting followed an earlier proposal from the Pakistan DGMO to cease hostilities, made during a hotline conversation with Indian DGMO Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai on May 10. This call led to a temporary cessation of cross-border firing and aerial intrusions from 5 PM the same day.

Lt Gen Ghai, speaking at a joint press briefing on Sunday, noted that despite the agreement, Pakistan violated the ceasefire within hours through fresh firing and drone activity. He confirmed that India responded decisively and had communicated the violations via a hotline message.

Emphasizing India’s firm stance, Lt Gen Ghai stated that repeated violations would be met with strong retaliation, backed by full authorization from the Chief of Army Staff.

In response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam last month that claimed 26 lives, India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terror locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
