Srinagar, April 10: In a continued crackdown on drug trafficking, police in south Kashmir’s Awantipora booked a notorious drug peddler under the PIT NDPS Act, while three more were arrested with contraband in separate operations across Sopore and Kupwara.
According to a police statement, three individuals were apprehended and illegal substances were recovered from their possession. In Sopore, police intercepted a vehicle (Ecco JK05M-4294) at a checkpoint in Neharpora. The driver, identified as Jahangir Ahmad Shah of Neharpora, was found with 300 tablets of Alpradex 0.5 and Rs 22,550 in cash. The vehicle used in the crime was seized.
In another incident, police apprehended Asif Ahmad Sheikh of Shahabad Sopore at a checkpoint near Batpora Crossing and recovered two sticks of charas-like substance from him.
Meanwhile, in Kupwara, police on patrol in the Bunpora area arrested Fayaz Ahmad Wani of Lolab and recovered a considerable quantity of charas-like substance from his possession.
All three accused have been arrested and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations.
Additionally, in Awantipora, police booked a known drug peddler, Javid Ahmad Dar alias Brichi of Lalpora Chatlum Pampore, under the PIT NDPS Act. The formal detention order was obtained from the competent authority, and Dar has been lodged at Central Jail Kot-Balwal, Jammu. He was reportedly involved in supplying drugs to the youth in Pampore and surrounding areas, with multiple cases already registered against him.
