Srinagar, Apr 6: Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shahโ€™s scheduled visit to Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress party on Saturday urged him to refrain from bypassing the Union Territoryโ€™s elected government in any initiative or administrative decision.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Congress chief whip and Bandipora MLA Nizamuddin Bhat said the recently elected government holds a strong democratic mandate and must be consulted on all matters, including those deemed advisory.

โ€œWe appeal to the Home Minister that the state government, which has earned a massive public mandate, should not be sidelined. Any action, review, or initiative concerning Jammu and Kashmir must include the elected dispensation,โ€ Bhat said.

He added that while the Centre and Raj Bhavan have the authority to act within their legal jurisdiction, cooperation with the state leadership is essential. โ€œConstitutionally, morally, and politically, it is imperative to involve the government chosen by the people,โ€ Bhat emphasized.

Shah is expected to arrive in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday for a three-day visit.
